My love for sports cards started when I was a kid playing Little League Baseball with my best friend. Like a lot of kids, we didn’t just play the game—we collected the players too. We traded cards, opened packs together, and spent hours talking about who we thought would be the next star.
Back then, collecting wasn’t about money or value. It was about fun, friendship, and the excitement of seeing what was inside the next pack.
As the years went by, life got busy. I grew up, responsibilities took over, and collecting became something I only came back to once in a while. Every now and then I would buy a box of cards, open it up, and enjoy going through them just like I did as a kid. That feeling never really went away—it was just on pause.
Eventually, as I got older, I found myself needing a hobby again—something positive and familiar. That’s when my friend and I started collecting more seriously. What began as casual pack opening turned into learning more about the hobby: different sets, players, grading, and how much the sports card world had changed over the years.
From Collecting to Selling
As I got deeper into collecting, I also became interested in the business side of the hobby. I started selling a few cards online and learning what it takes to list, package, and ship items to other collectors. Over time, that grew into selling not just cards, but also basic supplies for collectors.
That experience made me realize I wanted to do more than just collect—I wanted to build something around the hobby.
Why Garage Sale Sports Exists
That’s what led me to start Garage Sale Sports.
This site is a place where I can share my journey of starting and growing a small online sports card business from the ground up. I want to document both the collecting side and the selling side of the hobby, including:
- Collecting as a lifelong hobby
- Learning how to buy and sell cards responsibly
- Selling cards and supplies online
- Lessons from starting a small online store
- The excitement of opening packs and finding something special
- How the hobby changes over time
Garage Sale Sports is not about hype or shortcuts. It’s about learning, growing, and enjoying the process—both as a collector and as someone building an online store around something I love.
Starting this site gives me another reason to stay involved in the hobby and to share what I’m learning along the way. I hope it can also help others who collected as kids, stepped away for a while, and are now coming back to the hobby with new goals—whether that’s collecting, selling, or starting something of their own.
If you’ve ever played sports as a kid, collected cards with friends, or thought about turning a hobby into a small business, this site is for you.
Thanks for being here and joining me at the beginning of this journey.
